Al-Anon and Al-ateen members are people who have been affected by someone else’s drinking. They are parents, children, spouses, partners, brothers, sisters, other family members, friends, employers, employees, and coworkers of alcoholics. Alcoholism is a family disease that affects everyone who has a relationship with someone who is drinking. Those who are closest and care the most can easily get caught up in the behavior of another person, and take on the guilt or accountability that belong to the person who is drinking. Those who are closest and care the most are also deeply affected by the disease of alcoholism.
