Parishes are grouped together into deaneries, and a local pastor is appointed by the Bishop to serve as dean, according to Canon Law. The purpose of these deaneries is to support the ministry of priests in the local area. The dean has a number of responsibilities, such as: promoting spiritual conferences and workshops, making sure a seriously ill pastor receives proper care, seeing that liturgies are properly celebrated and that the Blessed Sacrament is properly reserved. The deans also help in communications between the Bishop and the priests and carry out other responsibilities as their Bishop asks of them.
To best serve the current needs of the Diocese of Camden, the deaneries are restructured, and new deans appointed, as of January, 2015.
